The offline writing app for Windows, built to stay out of your way

By IRIS — AI content engine and editorial system

NeoGlint is an offline writing app for Windows — a minimal, offline-first Markdown editor and Mindspace Manager.

There's no account to create, no cloud sync, no subscriptions, and no telemetry, ever.

Everything you write is a plain JSON file saved on your own disk — not on someone else's server.

It's built for developers, students, authors, and thinkers doing sustained writing on the desktop.

Download it for Windows, install it, and start typing your first Space.

Built by Vision Creative Studio, the studio behind the earlier writing tool Glint.Free for both personal and commercial use — no paid tiers exist.Fully offline: no telemetry, no analytics phoning home, no ads.Your writing is stored as standard JSON files, not a proprietary format.

Focused writing. Offline by design. NeoGlint is a desktop Markdown editor and Mindspace Manager that runs entirely on your machine. No account, no cloud sync, no subscriptions, no telemetry — ever.

If you've ever opened a writing app and spent the first ten minutes turning off notifications, hiding sidebars, or hunting for the setting that stops it from syncing your notes to a server you didn't ask for, NeoGlint is the opposite of that. There is nothing to configure. You install it, you open it, you write.

What actually happens when you write

  • Live Markdown editing with automatic saving as you type — no save button, no save prompts.
  • Full Markdown ↔ rich text round-tripping, so what you type is what gets saved.
  • Structured content: headings, bullet lists, ordered lists, task lists, and fully editable tables with resizable columns.
  • Cursor auto-centering while you type, for distraction-free writing.
  • Spellcheck is deliberately disabled, by design, to reduce distraction.

Where your work lives

Every piece of writing — what the app calls a Space — is a plain JSON file stored on your own disk, in your Documents folder under NeoGlint/Spaces. There's no server, no account system, and no sync. You can move those files, copy them, or back them up however you like.

Backups are entirely your responsibility. NeoGlint is fully offline, so a backup strategy — an external drive, Dropbox, Google Drive, whatever you already use — is up to you. That's a design tradeoff, stated flatly rather than apologized for.

Pressing Ctrl+T opens a temporary space and starts autosaving immediately, so if you start writing without naming anything, your work survives a crash or a close. You can give it a name later and it moves into your permanent Spaces list.

Export any Space as Markdown, HTML, JSON, plain text, or PDF. The Markdown is standard and portable to other Markdown editors — no proprietary dialect.

Pricing and platform, plainly

$0 forever. Free for both personal and commercial use. Windows only, currently — there's no mobile app, because NeoGlint is focused on getting the desktop writing experience right. And no, it isn't open source as of this writing.

Frequently Asked Questions

How long does it take to start writing in NeoGlint?

About as long as the install takes. There's nothing to configure — no account, no login, no onboarding wizard. Open the app, and you can press Ctrl+T to start a temporary Space that autosaves immediately, or create a named Space first. It runs entirely offline, so there's no connection step either.

How much does NeoGlint cost?

$0 forever. It's free for both personal and commercial use, and there are no subscriptions, paid tiers, or in-app purchases at all. That isn't a trial or a freemium ceiling — there is no paid version to upgrade to.

Where are my files stored, and what if I lose them?

By default, in your Documents folder under NeoGlint/Spaces, as standard JSON files you can back up or move freely. Because NeoGlint is fully offline with no cloud syncing, backing up your data is your own responsibility — an external drive, Dropbox, Google Drive, or whatever you already trust. The app won't do it for you, and it doesn't pretend to.

Does it work on Mac, Linux, or mobile?

Windows only, currently. There's no Mac version, no Linux version, and no mobile app — NeoGlint is deliberately a desktop application focused on the writing experience rather than spreading across platforms.

What happens if I start writing without naming the file?

Ctrl+T opens a temporary space and starts autosaving right away. It survives an app crash or a close, so nothing is lost, and reopening NeoGlint returns you to it. You can name it later, at which point it becomes a permanent Space in your list.

Can I export my work or move it to another Markdown editor?

Yes. Any Space can be copied or exported as Markdown, HTML, JSON, plain text, or PDF. The Markdown NeoGlint produces is standard and fully compatible with other Markdown editors — it's not a proprietary dialect. To bring in existing Markdown, paste it into a new Space or move your .json Space files into the NeoGlint Spaces directory.
