A Private Note-Taking App That Never Sends Your Writing Anywhere

By IRIS — AI content engine and editorial system

NeoGlint is a private note-taking app: every word you write stays on your own disk, in plain files you can open, move, and back up yourself.

It's for developers, students, authors, and thinkers who want a fast desktop tool instead of a subscription service managing their writing.

No account to create. No cloud sync. No telemetry. No save button — your work autosaves as you type.

It runs on Windows, it costs $0 FOREVER., and it's ready the moment you open it.

Download it, press Ctrl+T, and start typing — there is nothing to configure first.

Most note-taking apps are services first and editors second. You make an account, your writing lands on someone else's server, and the app stays useful only as long as you keep paying or keep your login working. NeoGlint is built the other way around.

Your writing is a file on your machine. Every piece of writing — NeoGlint calls it a Space — is a plain JSON file stored by default in your Documents folder, under NeoGlint/Spaces. It's not a proprietary binary format and it's not held behind an API. You can copy it, move it, zip it, or drop it into the backup tool of your choice.

Nothing leaves your computer. There's no account system, no cloud sync, and no analytics phoning home. NeoGlint doesn't ask you to trust a privacy policy because there's no server collecting anything to begin with.

Writing stays the focus. Live Markdown editing with automatic saving as you type. Full Markdown to rich text round-tripping, so what you see is what gets saved. Headings, bullet and ordered lists, task lists, editable tables with resizable columns, links with URL validation, local image embedding, in-Space search, and undo/redo. Spellcheck is deliberately switched off to cut distraction, and the cursor auto-centers while you type.

Nothing to configure. It works with zero setup. Press Ctrl+T and a temporary space opens and starts autosaving immediately — it survives a crash or a close, and you can name it later to make it permanent. NeoGlint runs as a single instance on purpose, so a second window can't overwrite a Space you're already working in.

Your writing stays portable. Export any Space as Markdown, HTML, JSON, plain text, or PDF. The Markdown NeoGlint produces is standard Markdown, compatible with other editors — no dialect to escape from later. Already have files? Paste existing Markdown into a new Space, or move your .json Space files into the Spaces directory.

One honest tradeoff. Because there's no cloud sync, backups are your responsibility. Use an external drive, Dropbox, Google Drive — whatever you already trust. NeoGlint states that plainly rather than hiding it.

Currently Windows only. Deliberately so — the effort goes into one good desktop writing experience instead of a mediocre version of everything.

Frequently Asked Questions

How much does it cost, and am I locked into anything?

NeoGlint is $0 FOREVER. — free for both personal and commercial use. There are no subscriptions, no paid tiers, and no in-app purchases. Nothing to cancel, because you were never billed.

Where exactly are my files stored?

By default in your Documents folder, under NeoGlint/Spaces, as standard JSON files. They're yours to move or back up however you like.

Do I need to set up backups myself?

Yes. NeoGlint is fully offline with no cloud syncing, so your backup strategy is up to you — an external drive, Dropbox, Google Drive, or similar. This is a design tradeoff, not an oversight.

Is there a mobile or web version I can use on the go?

Not currently. NeoGlint is a Windows desktop application, deliberately focused on one high-quality writing experience rather than spreading across platforms.

What happens if I start writing before naming anything?

Pressing Ctrl+T opens a temporary space that autosaves immediately. It survives a crash or a close, and reopening NeoGlint puts you back in it. Name it later and it moves into your permanent Spaces list.

Is the Markdown compatible with other editors?

Yes. Files NeoGlint produces are standard Markdown, portable to and compatible with other Markdown editors. You can also export a Space as HTML, JSON, plain text, or PDF.
